RENEWABLE ENERGY IN UKRAINE – 2016

In the first half of 2016, 14 new facilities for renewable energy capacity of almost 39 MW were built in Ukraine. Total investment in these projects exceeded ? 42 million.

This year the largest solar power plants (SPP) have been built in Kherson and Vinnytsya regions. Kahovka SPP.

These data are presented in the analytical report prepared by expert board of the 8th International Forum of Sustainable Energy in Ukraine SEF-2016 of KYIV, which will be held in Kyiv on October 11-12.

Therefore, as of July 1st, the total capacity of renewable energy sources in Ukraine, including solar and wind energy facilities, small hydro and biomass power plants (biogas) increased to 1028 MW.

Particularly, the total capacity of the Ukrainian solar power plants amounted to 453 MW, wind farm -426 MW, biomass power plants -31 MW and small hydro power plants -118 MW respectively.

The main contribution for the industry development in 2016 made by solar energy industry. The PV companies have realized 12 new solar power plants with total capacity of 37 MW during this period. The other 2MW related to 2 new objects in the biomass sector. This year the largest solar power plants of 22.2 MW total capacity have been built in Kherson and Vinnytsya regions by a company `Podilskiy Energoconsulting`.

At the same time, no projects have been implemented in the fields of wind energy and small hydropower in the first half of 2016, but some middle scale wind farms and small hydro power plants are at the stage of implementation.

According to the report of The SEF-2016 KYIV Forum, in total the Ukrainian and foreign developers are planning to build 34 new SPP with total capacity of over 120 MW by the end of 2016 in Ukraine.

Particularly, in the 2nd half of 2016, the company `Podilskiy Energoconsulting` is going to build in a number of new facilities with total capacity of 38 MW in Vinnitsa region. The company `Paradigma Invest Group` is going to complete a solar power plant with capacity of 18.3 MW in Ivano-Frankivsk region this year too. In the same region, the company `Solar SteelConstruction` is finishing the construction of a new facility with capacity of 4.1 MW. The company `Ukrainian System Solar` is going to build 4 solar power plants with total capacity more than 30 MW.

As well, In Dnipropetrovsk region, Ukrainian Systems Solar isgoing to launch a unique project - the first Ukrainian tracker solar power plant (constructions which follow the Sun) with capacity of 1.7 MW). The company `Helios Strategia` this year is going to build in Ukraine 5 solar power plants with total capacity20 MW. As well this company plans to launch in Europe 3 new plants with total capacity 17 MW.

Also 11 investment projects in the biomass and wind energy sectors are under consideration by the foreign investors. In particular, the investors from China and South Korea declared their intention to implement large and middle scale projects on the biomass-to-energy market of Ukraine. In the field of biomass-to-heat, total capacity of biomass boiler plants has been achieved more than 240 MW (excluding domestic boilers) in Ukraine.

The latest trends, state initiatives, legislation changes, investment and financing programs, as well as practical cases of each field of renewable energy and energy efficiency development will be discussed at the SEF-2016 KYIV Forum, the main meeting point for sustainable energy industry development in Ukraine for the last 8 years. SEF- 2016 KYIV will be held on October 11-12 in the Ukrainian capital and traditionally bring together the best international experts, chairmen the state government agencies, owners and top managers of the largest Ukrainian and foreign companies which are developing and planning to develop Ukrainian  projects in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
