Residents of Zhytomyr are discussing the possibility of building a hydroelectric power station on the Teteriv River and an investment proposal by Svobodna Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Free Energy. An expert who participated in the construction of the Zhytomyr dam near the Glory Monument supported the construction of a small hydroelectric power station. The residents of Zhytomyr are once again raising the issue of the construction of a hydroelectric power station on the Teteriv River. This time, the relevant appeal appeared on the website of the city council in the form of a petition. The author of the appeal asks to consider the technical feasibility and economic feasibility of building a hydroelectric power station on the basis of a dam on the Teteriv River near the Eternal Glory Monument, involving appropriate specialists for this purpose.
We will remind that in July 2015, Serhiy Sukhomlyn (at that time, still the deputy head of the city council) announced that in Zhytomyr they plan to repair the dam on the Teteriv River and start the construction of a hydroelectric power station.
"The investor is ready to reconstruct the dam at his own expense. 10% of the sale of electricity under the "green" tariff will go to the budget of the local utility company. In this case, we plan to direct the money to KP Zhytomyrvodokanal. The amount we plan to receive is about 200-500 thousand UAH per month. For Vodokanal, this is tangible support," Serhiy Sukhomlyn said.
However, in December, at a meeting of the executive committee, the chairman of the Zhytomyr City Council announced that if no changes are made to the "Regulations on the conditions for conducting a competition to determine the best investment projects for the construction of two hydroelectric power stations", the competition for the construction of a hydroelectric power plant may be canceled.
According to the preliminary calculations of "Svobodnaya Energia" LLC, which intends to invest in this project, the overhaul and construction of the HPP at the Zhytomyr dam will cost 520,000 euros and will last approximately 11-15 months. We asked the opinion of the architect who participated in the construction of the dam - Gennady Vengdovskyi.
"Since the Zhytomyr dam is in working condition, in my opinion, a small hydroelectric power plant can be built directly behind it. Such an installation will not affect the dam's ability to hold back water, but on the contrary, it will use the power of water to generate energy, Gennadiy Venglovskyi explained. - Since our energy is ring-fenced, the dam will make it somewhat cheaper."
Please note that 9 hydroelectric power stations have been built in the Zhytomyr region and are operating successfully, making a profit, while in Zhytomyr the matter has not yet progressed further.
